Foxton Locks Bookshop
Have you been to Foxton Locks recently?
Sometimes it’s easy to overlook the lovely local places that are worth a visit. If you’ve not been to Foxton Locks recently then you may not realise there is now a second-hand bookshop inside Top Lock Cottage. This was set up by staff and volunteers in March 2022 and it has proved to be a great success.
Come visit
I do hope that you will be inspired to come to visit. As well as the bookshop, you may be lucky enough to see boats go through the flight of ten locks. You can enjoy a quiet walk along the towpath by the canal and the views are amazing too!
Free Guided walks
Canal and River Trust volunteers are on hand to talk to you about Foxton Locks and there are free guided walks on certain days. All proceeds from the shop are reinvested into the Foxton site. This includes items such as plants for the flower beds and craft materials for the use of younger visitors. So, it is a great way to raise money for this local attraction.
During the winter months the bookshop just opens at weekends.
From April-October it opens every day – usually from 10.00 till 15.00. If you do want a book, we just ask that you leave a donation – the suggestion is £1.00 per book, unless marked otherwise.
We can only take cash, which goes into an honesty box so that you can buy a book even if there is no one around.
It’s really rewarding to volunteer at Foxton Locks and the team is hoping that more people will volunteer to help at the bookshop – if you’re interested in getting involved have a look at the Canal and River Trust pages online at: canalandrivertrust.org.uk/volunteer or speak to a volunteer at the bookshop to find out more.
I hope to see you there!
