Kibworth Art Lovers Society – May ’23
At our April meeting, Kibworth Art Lovers were treated to an inspiring demonstration of line and wash painting by Tim Fisher. Tim, a leading artist, author and art tutor, has been a professional artist since 2000 and has won numerous awards. He is a great believer in keeping a sketchbook “both as a means of recording fleeting elements within (his) surroundings and as a device that can be used to develop further artwork” much of which features ink drawing.
For his demo, Tim chose a traditional street scene, a cobbled road lined with stone cottages. He worked on paper with a rough surface, and using a steel-nib drawing pen. He began with a contour drawing. Looking at shapes and patterns rather than objects and keeping his pen on the surface of the paper. He then worked over this with a stronger pen to bring out the dark tones.
Tim applied colour from a pallet of yellow ochre, French ultramarine blue, Ukranian green, Van Dyke brown, Venetian red, cadmium yellow and orange. Tim expertly demonstrated how to blend and apply these colours to complete his scene. He finally showed how mounting and framing enhances a painting.
Tim will be an ‘Artist in Residence’ at the Patchings Art Festival this year.
Our next meeting on Tuesday 27 June will be led by artist, illustrator and creator, Sue Clegg. Visitors welcome.
