Gartree’s Super Prison Decision Deferred Again
Sadly, the decision by HM Government Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities on building a Super Prison at Gartree has been deferred yet again. The decision is now due to be announced on Wednesday 8 November.
All we now know is that the Government will have taken at least thirteen months to accept or reject the outcome of the public inquiry. The Government has provided no explanation as to why the delay continues. Whilst the overwhelming majority of residents remain firmly against this proposal, we are looking forward to the HM Government making a decision. The uncertainty as to whether England’s largest prison will be built on our doorstep is very frustrating.
Local constituent MP Neil O’Brien (Con) forcefully spoke out against the proposals in the public inquiry and continues to support Gartree Action’s view that Gartree is the wrong location for this development.
