Voluntary Drivers Urgently Needed
VASL Car Scheme has been operating since 1987 in Market Harborough and covers 2/3 of Harborough District. The scheme is for anyone who is elderly, disabled, rurally isolated, has no transport of their own or has difficulty accessing public transport.
Due to a shortage of drivers, we are prioritising health and hospital appointments. We have over 200 clients residing in Kibworth and only two volunteer drivers, so we urgently need more in this area. Could you be one of them?
Our volunteer drivers use their own vehicles and are re-imbursed their expenses, they can offer as much or as little time as they like, there’s no pressure to commit.
The Transport Scheme is so much more than a cheap taxi, it’s a lifeline for our clients, who value the companionship on what can be very anxious and stressful trips to hospital.
Our drivers say “It’s very rewarding to be able to help others get to important appointments – on time and with as little stress as possible” “It adds a bit of purpose and structure to my week. I also like the mental and physical challenge of each appointment and making sure each client is looked after well and with respect.”
