Introducing The Well
to those who are new to the village
The Well is a charity set up some years ago by St Wilfrid’s and the Methodist Churches to help meet the needs of people in the village. It began with a small café and pre-loved clothes shop. Expanded since to include a food bank and to provide or to signpost people, irrespective of their colour, sexual orientation or religious belief, to any advice or assistance they might need.
We close on Monday afternoons to provide space for groups. There is currently a Dementia Café held on the second Monday of the month at 2.00pm. There is also a small evening group for youngsters run by a trained youth worker. Various agencies use the Sanctuary to meet people on Thursday. This includes Life Links for a mental health drop-in, the Health and Wellbeing team, housing advice drop-ins, and Local Area coordinators. Please see The Well’s website for more details, everyone is welcome.
As a charity its work is overseen by a group of trustees who work voluntarily and tirelessly for The Well. The Café and Clothes Shop are also run by our wonderful volunteers. Our only paid posts being Andy, the Operations Manager, and Nicky, the Café Manager.
Village Support
The Well exists only because of the support it receives from the village. We are extremely grateful for all donations, whether food, clothing, finance, volunteer’s time or any other assistance. Many churches in the area have recently held Harvest Festivals and we have been greatly blessed by their generous food donations.
Visit Us
If you have not visited The Well, do pop in – there is usually someone around to talk to! And if you’re new to the area then volunteering is a great way to get to know people. The Well will also be open on Christmas morning – so no need to feel lonely that day, just come on down.
