Football Teams are Leicestershire Champions!
We are always proud of our sports teams, but this half term has had some exceptional performances, with both the Year 7 girls and Year 8 boys winning the County cup in thrilling finals at Seagrave, Leicester City’s training ground.
Year 7 Girls
The girls’ opponents were UCC, who drew an early save from our super shot stopper Libby. Our defenders Darcey, Katie and Megan were working extremely hard to stifle the opposition attackers and put up a great fight to protect our goal.
Emilia and Sophie were also putting in a real shift to get back and help our defenders, as Uppingham had some strong players on each wing. Uppingham then hit the cross bar from a free kick and another save from Libby was well needed to keep the score at 1-0.
Then, through a neat passing move involving Indygo and Sophie, the ball broke to captain Lily, who dribbled the ball past opposition defenders and slotted into the corner of the goal to put the mighty KMA 1-0 up.
The goal seemed to settle the girls, with Indi and Indygo up front now having more of a foothold in the game and seeing much more of the ball.
Terrifically Talented Team
The Kibworth girls had really found their stride and this terrifically talented team were beginning to dominate. Lola had come onto the pitch and look so assured with her passing out of defence, and the speedy Tamsin was also making some great runs in behind the defenders. However, with the game still at 1-0, anything could happen and the next goal was crucial.
Megan had become a bit of a dead ball specialist this year, and so when KMA won a corner it presented an opportunity. Megan’s brilliant ball into the box was met by Lily, who had timed her run to perfection and she volleyed home to put KMA 2-0 up!
Kibworth were well on their way, and Sophie was having a super second half on the right wing, causing lots of problems for the opposition. Darcey was also continuing to marshal and lead the defence in outstanding fashion.
Captain Courageous
Our captain courageous, Lily, received the ball after some great work from Emilia and Tamsin. Lily was still over 20 yards from goal, and after working some space, she unleased an unstoppable shot which flew into the goal and KMA were now 3-0 up. The final whistle blew and KMA became girls County football champions for the first time in 10 years!
Year 8 Boys
The game started very intensely, with both teams having a few chances at goal. However, Kibworth started to assert their dominance, showing no signs of nerves as they swiftly took control of the game. It was Harlee who provided the early breakthrough, scoring a crucial goal to settle any jitters and set the tone for Kibworth’s performance.
Relentless Attacking
Buoyed by their early lead, Kibworth continued to press forward, dictating the pace and rhythm of the game. Noah and Matt controlled the midfield and played through the lines well, getting the balls to Ethan and Fergus Their relentless attacking play paid off once again as Harlee W found the back of the net for the second time, delivering a masterful finish to extend Kibworth’s lead to 2-0.
Despite facing a determined St Paul’s side, Frank S and Matt M maintained their composure with defensive solidity for much of the match. However, with tensions rising in the final stages, St Paul’s managed to pull one back in the dying minutes of the game, setting up a tense finale.
Standing Firm
Kibworth stood firm, showcasing resilience and determination to hold on to their lead until the final whistle. With the scoreboard reading 2-1 in their favour, Kibworth erupted into celebrations as they clinched victory and etched their names into the annals of history.
Both wins were followed with medal ceremonies, with their parents watching on proudly, where our humble players received their gold medals and the trophy. The whole KMA community are so proud of this wonderfully talented set of students, and we know how lucky we are to have them.
