Snippets – June 2024
Harold Mann is a deliverer for the Kibworth and District Chronicle. He has been delivering the Chronicle for many years. Today, 20 June, is Harold’s 90th birthday. ‘Happy birthday, Harold’. Is he the eldest deliverer, one wonders?
Janet Dowling (trustee of the Kibworth Community Library) has sought and found some additional funding for the library which has enable it the purchase some useful accessories.
One year ago the headline on the June 2023 issue of the Kibworth Chronicle’s was ‘A bridge too far’ following a public meeting during which Network Rail were told they must provide a temporary bridge over the railway line on Route B1 whilst the old Victorian brick built bridge was demolished and replaced. That work on installing the replacement is nearly finished. Only this month workmen were seen measuring up the space at the end of the green panelling to install some extra fencing.
However sadly ‘Kibworth Lake’ still reappears whenever we have a shower. How long will this take to resolve by Network Rail, one wonders? Have you noticed the drains are halfway up the bridge not at the bottom where the rain collects?
Kibworth Cricket Club to host Leicestershire County Cricket Club v Surrey in the ‘Metro Bank One Day Cup 50 Overs’match on Tuesday 6 August. Tickets are on sale via Leicestershire CCC website.
It was very enjoyable day last year with LCCC winning and going on to the final which they won too. (Unfortunately, there are signs advertising last year’s match which need to be removed)
Kibworth Village ‘Yard Sale’
From reading the local Facebook pages (Kibworth & Smeeton Information Exchange) this seems to have been another excellent event. Well done to all those who took part.
Supper out
A recent visit to one our local hostelries was a pleasant surprise. The Bell at East Langton, famed in the past for having remarkable garden and particularly good local beer has after several changes of ownership returned to what a country pub should be. Homely, comfortable, with good food and nice pint! Well done Stef and Neill.
