It’s Well on the Way…

A summer update for you all

We hope you all enjoyed your summer, all your donations and hard work to help GEMS Charity raise the funds to refurbish the chemotherapy treatment area at the LRI have been turned into work over the summer. So just a quick update for you all.

The refurbishment work of the treatment area at the LRI is well under way and the hospital are hoping to welcome patients back into the area on Monday 7 October providing all work, safety checks and cleaning has been completed.

This is great news for us and all our supporters and especially good news for the patients and their supporters. We are looking forward to seeing the finished project and the patients in a more relaxed environment during their treatment.

We will continue to work with the chemotherapy area to help the patients and their supporters be more comfortable during their cancer treatment.

Whilst we are waiting to hear / discuss the new project at the LRI, we now have an exciting new project; we are looking for accommodation for patients and their supporters to stay in for a night of respite to allow them to relax and hopefully forget all their worries for at least a short while.

Most of you lovely people know all about GEMS Charity, however we still get asked ‘What is GEMS Charity all about?’  So just in case you haven’t heard of us, GEMS Charity is a local Leicestershire charity based here in Kibworth, with the aim being ‘To help make the patients and their supporters who visit the Chemotherapy suite in the Osborne Building at the Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI) more comfortable during their cancer treatment’.

The charity was founded in 2012 after I supported four close friends through their cancer treatment, GEMS is named after those four friends: Gilly, Elizabeth, Meg and Sarah. The charity is run solely by volunteers to enable the hard-earned donations to go straight to the charity’s aim.

We have received so much support from this wonderful community over the years and hopefully will continue to do so. Please have a look at our website to find out more and where all the help and donations have been spent. www.gemscharity.com

Many, many thanks once again for everyone that supports us in any way, without you we couldn’t do what we do.
