Green Flag award
Congratulations go the local Canal and River Trust, who manage Foxton Locks. They have recently won a Green Flag award for the fourth year running. This recognises their efforts to keep the site safe and accessible to the highest standards.
The Green Flag Award scheme recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of recreational outdoor spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
Winning a Green Flag Award brings with it a wealth of benefits, from the status of being affiliated with a prestigious awards programme through to tangible benefits such as recognising and rewarding staff, promoting your site and sharing good practice.
The iconic Foxton Locks provide a fascinating family day out in Leicestershire. There are flights of locks all over our network – but not like Foxton. It’s home to two amazing feats of engineering in the heart of Leicestershire, on the Grand Union Canal. As well as the longest and steepest staircase locks in the UK, the site is home to the remains of the inclined plane, a magnificent, piece of Victorian engineering.
This is a much visited outdoor destination which attracts 400,000 visitors a year, and offers fabulous benefits for our health and well-being.
