Kibworth Art Lovers – Sept 2024
Kibworth Art Lovers had a memorable month of June following our annual exhibition.
The monthly meeting was led by the professional pastels artist Andrea Naylor. She brought a new perspective of this medium to our members. Her chosen paper for the demonstration was velour which allows for more layers and less dust than some other types. This is her favoured paper for an animal portrait, her topic for the evening.
Having prepared a background of flat black and brown with highlights of peach, Andrea started the portrait with the dog’s eyes using pastel pencils suited to the velour paper. She then moved on to the face and body. She demonstrated how the painting could be achieved using just five chalk pastel colours, blended where necessary and applied with varying pressure. The result was a very accomplished image of the dog.
Sketching at Kibworth Hall
The following Saturday the Kibworth Art Lovers were invited to sketch at Kibworth Hall, Carlton Road. Our hosts, David and Martin, gave us an exceptionally warm welcome as we chose our shaded spots around the grounds. It was a bright summer’s day. The views of both the Hall and gardens were a delight to sketch and paint. As we presented our work at the end of the afternoon, we were treated to tea and cake on the patio. Our sincere thanks go to David and Martin. We shall certainly be taking up the invitation to sketch again at the Hall.
We begin our 2024/25 season on Tuesday 24 September with an evening led by Market Harborough artist, Michael Edwards, who will demonstrate paper clay art.
The Kibworth Art Lovers Society is for everyone interested in art and the creation of art, whether or not they paint or sketch. Non-members are always welcome at our meetings. They take place in the Kibworth Hub Lounge once a month on a Tuesday evening.
