Kibworth Art Lovers Society update
The Kibworth Art Lovers Society began its 2024/25 season with an entertaining evening led by Lubenham artist, Michael Edwards.
Over his career of 20 years, Michael has earned widespread recognition as a watercolourist. His works are included in collections around the world. More recently he has branched out into abstracts, working in a variety of media and styles. It was this aspect of his work that he brought to our meeting.
In the first half of the evening, Michael’s demonstration of paper clay craft had all the ingredients of a cookery class and led to a great deal of discussion. Following a recipe of flour, glue, Polyfilla, salt and paper blended to a pulp, a clay was created and then moulded around a bowl. Patterns could be scratched on using combs, wire wool or any ‘spiking’ tool. This would take two to three weeks to set hard. Though there were plenty of suggestions for speeding up the process! Michael had brought an array of finished articles showing the diversity of shape, colour and form which can be achieved through this craft.
In the second half, Michael demonstrated his unique method of monoprinting using materials often found at home along with acrylic transparent sheets and oil sticks.
Our next meeting
In our next meeting on Tuesday 29 October, Oakham artist, Peter Barker, will demonstrate painting with pastels. Peter is renowned for his depiction of Britain’s land and seascapes. This earnt him the prestigious membership of the Royal Society of Marine Artists. He is also known for his portrayal of wild and domestic animals. It’s well worth a look at his website. Visitors are warmly welcome at our meetings.
In the meantime, paintings by Pat Porteous are on display at the Kibworth branch of the MHBS throughout October, to be followed by Janet Alderson-Smith’s in November.
