Kibworth Band
Our trip to the National Brass Band 1st Section Finals in Cheltenham proved to be a very long day. We had to be there by 1pm for the draw with our section scheduled to start at 2.30pm. The procedure for the draw is akin to that used in the football league. The the programme number is drawn first followed by the position of play.
There were 19 bands in the competition and we drew the dreaded Number 1, meaning we played first. My only defence was the fact that the organisers, rather than the band representative, did the draw, so the players continued to talk to me!!
The band played very well and received good comments on the various banding web sites and from fellow players. We did, however, have to wait until around 11.00pm for the results which put us in a respectable 7th place.
By the time the Chronicle goes to press we will be in Kibworth for a Proms Concert in support of The Well. We are then back to contesting with the LBBA contest in Loughborough on 24 November. Then, dare I say it, it’s nearly time for Christmas! Our Christmas Concert, where we will be joined by the Youth Band, is on Saturday 14 December. This year, in a change from the usual, it will be in the afternoon.
