Time for Winter Boots!

Kibworth Osteopaths and Pilates

Boots are more than footwear. They are our trusty companions for muddy adventures, hill conquering, and winter warmth.

Quality boots may seem like an investment, but they’re worth it. As an elderly patient wisely said, “Don’t skimp on footwear or mattresses, for if you’re not on one, you’re in the other.” With proper care, boots can last for years.

Two key rules govern boot shopping: ensure a proper fit and understand your feet. Consider your arch type, ankle history, toe flexibility, and foot width. Even the finest boots can lead to discomfort, injuries, or blisters if they don’t fit correctly.

Let’s focus on everyday boots. I wear them from late autumn through early spring, whether working or out and about. These boots should offer ample support with a reliable sole, much like the supportive people in our lives. Ankle-height boots are ideal for daily wear, and as discussed in my high heels blog, it’s essential to avoid high-heeled boots.

Textured soles are essential for everyday boots, providing traction on rainy or icy days. Don’t overlook specialised boots, like walking boots. Terrain matters; for flat paths, choose lightweight, flexible boots, for rugged adventures, opt for stiffer soles and ankle support. Material matters less than fit. Both leather and synthetic boots can be waterproof and durable.

Work boots should meet industry-specific requirements, even if they’re tough on your feet. Gel shock absorbers can provide relief during long workdays. Let’s not forget wellies! Great for quick wet walks, but they lack support and insulation. Welly warmers can help keep your feet warm.

Socks are essential when wearing boots. They should resist friction, stay in place, offer padding for walking boots, and allow breathability.

Who knew there was so much to consider when it comes to boots? Now you do! If you have questions or need assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out. Your feet deserve the best care, after all!
