County Councillor for Gartree

A6 – A Community Concern Site

Readers of the Neighbourhood Link emails from our local police will have read about this but finally, after more than a year, of Community Speed Watch, lobbying and chasing, there is to be a 12-18 month period for police camera vans to be based on the A6 through the Kibworths to check the speeds of passing vehicles. Two locations have been identified on the A6 either side of the Wistow Road roundabout.

As readers of Neighbourhood Link will have seen, there have been regular reports of speed checks for the A47 and B6047, so it will be good to see some data for the A6.

Kibworth Beauchamp Parish Council has purchased six Belgian traffic measurement devices from a company called Telraam. Five of the devices are now being hosted by volunteers around the two villages and currently overlook the A6, High Street at two locations, Smeeton Road and Fleckney Road.

It is hoped a location for the sixth device will be found soon. The passing traffic data can be viewed by accessing this Telraam website for the Kibworth network telraam.net/#16/52.5403/-0.9973 from where the five current devices can be found and their data viewed.

Cars, lorries, pedestrians and two wheelers are counted and also night traffic is collected. In addition to numbers, the devices give an indication of speeds too.  Once all are installed and have been collecting data for several months, the data will be collated and used to help make the business case with the county council for more traffic controls.

Harborough District Council are currently working on the new Local Plan and the data will also be useful when residents and councillors are faced with further housing location proposals. There are rumours that some 4,000 houses may be proposed on land between Great Glen and Oadby, which would see additional vehicles using the A6.

Leicestershire Learning Disabilities Partnership Board

Members of the Leicestershire Learning Disabilities Partnership Board (LLDPB) have been at the very heart of the planning and launch of the board’s new-look website.  The (LLDPB) supports people with learning disabilities, their families and carers.

Unveiled at a recent conference for care professionals, the website development involved members of the LLDPB deciding what it should look like and what content should be included.

Board members have been involved in all aspects of the website review, including having a vote on the design of new logos.

The Board also has members from different organisations in Leicestershire, such as Adult Learning Leicestershire, Leicestershire Partnership Trusts, and Learning Disability nurses, that support people with learning disabilities to make things safer and easier for them to access.

The LLDPB:

  • meets every 3 months and has an annual conference
  • makes a difference to the lives of people with learning disabilities, their families, and carers
  • follows an action plan which sets out priorities for the year
  • links in / supports the locality groups around Leicestershire
  • informs other groups about any changes, new ideas, and decisions made during the discussions.

The locality groups meet up around Leicestershire to share information from Partnership Board meetings with local communities. This is a great opportunity to drop in and meet new people and hear about local resources within your area.

The Harborough Locality Group meets next on 19 November at the Methodist Church on Northampton Road from 10am to 12noon.
