Ted Smith
Followers of The Kibworth Band Facebook page will have noted Ted Smith died in early November 2024. He was one of Kibworth’s characters. He was Kibworth Band personified and ran their 200 Club.
For many years Ted owned and ran a greengrocery shop known as ‘Granny Smiths’ situated where Edmonds and Slatter currently resides. It was a help-yourself shop frequented by many.
Ted has been in a Care home for the last few years. He will be very much missed.
John Burbage
John Burbage of New Road, Kibworth died earlier this year on 15 April 2024. He was a keen campanologist and began his bell ringing back in the 1940s and was still ringing up to four years ago at the outbreak of Covid.
According to the Leicester Diocesan Guild of Church Bell Ringers he was very well known both in Harborough District and Guild having been a past Chairman and tower captain at St Wilfrid’s Church for many years.
Drainage
Finally we have to say goodbye to the short-lived ‘Kibworth Lake’. The new drain has been installed and currently it works!
Everyone is Welcome!
Harborough Leisure Centre is having a Family Open Day on Saturday 30 November, 10am-4pm. The centre has been newly refurbished. Olympians Becki Adlington and Maisie Summers-Newton will be on hand for selfies and also signing autographs.
The event includes free family swim sessions, free gym session, free group exercise classes and much much more.
Free Parking for part of December
Harborough District Council say you can park for free in the towns’ car parks on the three Saturdays, 7, 14 and 21 December. It is free for four hours only in the short stay car parks and all day in the long stay car parks. You will still need to obtain a ticket from the machine to indicate your arrival time. The above applies to Lutterworth town too.
Wood Chopping
The hedge around the newly designated scout area adjacent to the Grammar School bridge has been severely trimmed. Is this in preparation of planting the whips!
School Road, Kibworth Railings
Kibworth Beauchamp Parish Council have asked businesses and events organisers to remove their posters from the railing at the corner of High Street and School Road by 8 November.
Some businesses and organisations have been using the railings as free advertising space and leaving their poster up for weeks, months or even years!
The railing are owned by Seven Locks who are the landlord of the nearby flats. The garden is also owned by the same organisation and will no doubt be displaying a Christmas tree during upcoming festivities.
Please remove your old Posters
One poster advertises an event on Saturday 12 September yet it is early November. Removal of the poster is just as important as displaying them.
