South Leicestershire Medical Group (Patient Participation Group)

What is a Patient Participation Group?

It is a contractual requirement for a GP practice to have a Patient Participation Group (PPG). South Leicestershire Medical Group has a thriving PPG where patient members work closely with nominated practice staff to raise issues, share patient experiences, and identify action plans to help improve services to support the needs of all patients across the practice.

The PPG offers a way for patients and practice staff to talk to each other. The PPG patient members are all volunteers with a diverse range of personal and professional knowledge, skills, and experience which are used to make a positive contribution to the services and facilities offered by the practice on behalf of the patients. They are the ears and eyes within the community and can use their own experiences to identify ways to improve the service.

As well as supporting the local SLMG PPG, representation is made at the Leicestershire and Rutland ICB PPG Network, where PPG members from across the area can share best practice and find out about updates to services and the work of the ICB.

The SLMG PPG is also an active member of the National Association of Patient Participation (NAPP) who provide support, expertise, and resources needed to run an effective PPG.

The PPG will represent the views of the patients at one of their monthly meetings which take place with nominated members of staff from the South Leicestershire Medical Group.

If you would like to contact the PPG with feedback and/or suggestions for discussion at one of the meetings then please email ppg.slmg@gmail.com and members of the group will respond to you within 5  working days.

Please note that the PPG cannot become involved in matters of a specifically medical or clinical nature. Please forward any complaints or concerns that relate to medical care to management.slmg@nhs.net This will be managed under the Practices’ Complaints Procedure.
