Editorial – December 2024

Christmas in the Christian calendar is a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ; his anniversary or birthday, and as we all know, birthdays usually mean the expectation of gifts.

What emotions that word can cause: pleasure, anticipation, worry and even panic. It ends when you realise as you ‘mature’ (a much better word than ‘age’) that the joy of giving and receiving gifts is secondary to the company of those who love and support you in Life. Families, friends, neighbours, charitable groups, know the benefits of sharing a meal or having time with others at Christmas.

On Friday 6 December I was lucky enough to see Kevin Sinfield run through my village on the penultimate day of his seven- day ‘Running home for Chris tmas’. This ishis fifth challenge to raise funds for MND charities, having already raised nearly £10 million in the first four events. He is truly the essence of ‘giving’, for, as many of us witnessed on TV, he also provided love and emotional support to his great friend Rob Burrow and his family during the years of Rob’s illness.

The fundraising marathons and runs by Kevin Sinfield and others have given MND charities a boost in their research into a cure for this terrible disease and a higher profile of awareness among the public. Let’s hope that they have success soon.

Christmas: a time for Giving.

The whole Kibworth & District Chronicle Team wish you a merry, peaceful Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year.
