Kibworth Community Library
As we come to the end of the year in the library, we are watching our exciting new extension at Kibworth Community Hub take shape at pace. It’s not long since the first spade went into the ground, and we’re thinking already about decorating.
For now it’s Christmas 2024 by the bus shelter with another imaginative and colourful knitted display in our garden and along our railings, thanks to a lot of creativity by Kibworth WI members.
Throughout the year, our amazing volunteer-run library has continued to be a busy, happy, stimulating place catering for everyone and every age group with an eclectic range of talks and activities, plus, of course, books to borrow and a shedful of good quality donated books to buy at bargain prices.
We have plenty of reading material to keep everyone engaged over Christmas, including recent deliveries for older children.
Our opening hours:
Monday 10am-1pm and 2-5pm
Tuesday 10am-1pm
Wednesday 2-5pm
Thursday 9-11am
Friday 9am-1pm and 2-5pm
Saturday 10am-12pm

2025 History Season
Looking ahead to 2025, we are planning a History Season to include a series of lunchtime local history talks with a homemade savoury snack.
Themes on the last Thursday of each month from January to Easter will be Kibworth Windmill, Foxton Locks, and Market Harborough. We have an evening visit from a writer of historical fiction, and Kibworth Antiques Centre are planning a contribution to our programme. The library’s thriving family history group meets on alternate Mondays.
Nature
In spring, our mood changes with a daytime talk on the Rutland Ospreys. We are planning to reinstate John Beatty’s evening talk at The Hub, ‘Adventures in the Wild 2’, which sadly had to be postponed due to access worries caused by building work.
We are also planning an evening talk about Coton Manor Gardens. (Owner and gardener-in-chief Susie Pasley-Tyler’s recent daytime event holds the library’s record for speed of selling out tickets.)
We wish all our volunteers, library users and friends a very good Christmas, and look forward to welcoming you back in the new year. We close at 5pm on Monday 23 December and reopen on Monday 6 January.
