Kibworth Community Library – Feb 2025

“History unravels gently, like an old sweater. It has been patched and darned many times, reknitted to suit different people, shoved in a box under the sink of censorship to be cut up for the dusters of propaganda, yet it always – eventually – manages to spring back into its old familiar shape.” – Terry Pratchett – Mort

Our Local History Season is going very well. Graham Watts’ talk about Kibworth Harcourt Post Mill was a fascinating look at the past. We are working hard to retain that knowledge today.
We delve further into the past of Kibworth and the surrounding area later this month with a talk about Foxton Locks by the Canal and River Trust. That talk is on Thursday 27 February at 12 noon.
More talks in March
March brings two more talks. On Tuesday 18 March at 7.30pm I will be giving a talk about Kibworth and the Black Death. On Thursday 27 March at 12 noon we have David Holmes, the Chair of the Market Harborough Historical Society, talking about their latest book, a History of Market Harborough from 1800 to the present day.
We are delighted to have rescheduled John Beatty’s talk, Adventures in the Wild 2, postponed from last November, to Wednesday 2 April at 7pm. As before, it’s being held in Kibworth Community Hub at the Grammar School Hall.
We keep the historical theme going in April with the lovely Joanne Burn returning to Kibworth to talk about her latest book, The Bone Hunters. A spellbinding historical novel about fossil hunting, ambition, and betrayal. This talk is on Monday 7 April at 7.30pm in the library.
Tickets for all of these events are on sale now in the library. All are £6, except for John Beatty’s which is £9. All include delicious refreshments. The library telephone number is 0116 305 3612.
Finally, our March Book Sale will be on Saturday 8 from 10am till 12pm!
