National Garden Scheme – Gardens open locally in February 2025

Snowdrops are the harbingers of spring. According to folk law the white of the snowdrop symbolises the light of the winter sun. This light gets stronger as the days lengthen towards spring.

Westview at 1 St Thomas’s Road, Great Glen LE8 9EH, opens on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 February,11am – 4pm.

300 varieties of snowdrops will be on display. Along with winter colour provided by cyclamen, crocus, hellebores, aconites, ranunculus ficaria, and iris reticulata. Evergreen ferns, box, yew, and flowering shrubs hamamelis, sarcococca, and daphne will complement the display.

Teas and cakes will be on sale, together with homemade soup to fend off any winter chill.

Also opening on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 February, 11-4 is the charming garden at Hedgehog Hall at 3 Loddington Road, Tilton on the Hill LE7 9DE.

This half-acre garden has over 350 varieties of snowdrops and many unusual hellebores, trilliums, ferns, cyclamen, and pulmonaria for a lovely late winter display. There are scented shrubs including sarcococca, daphne and hamamelis. Part of the garden is terraced displaying the snowdrops and hellebores to great effect.
