Covid –19 Lockdowns

When the first Covid-19 lockdown was announced I, in complete shock, unsure how I was going to fill my days. Previously I had enjoyed lots of various volunteering roles and meeting friends for coffee, lunch, etc allowing me to structure my week in a very fulfilling way. I felt that walking, gardening, reading, the search of tackling all of those tasks around the house and garden that previously there didn’t seem to be time for (in my case painting garden fences and the inside of cupboards) wasn’t going to be enough to sustain my wellbeing.
Having recently completed an art workshop at Wistow Rural Centre titled ‘Mixed Media Landscapes with Collage’. I had always wanted to work with paper was wasn’t sure how to begin. I enjoyed the day so much and it reignited my passion in art. So with lots of time on my hands to experiment with painting with paper I was off. I produced hundreds of paintings in this medium of a variety of subjects.
It was my art that got me through these challenging, frightening and very uncertain times and kept me sane.
I have continued painting mixed media collages, having in more recent times focused entirely on people for my subject matter. This has really enriched my life so looking back I feel that lockdown was a very positive experience.
