Dog’s Trust Visit

Kibworth CE Primary School

In our annual wellbeing week, we were lucky to be able to welcome Sarah from Dogs Trust. Sarah spent three days in school and talked to all of the children about how to care for dogs safely. She taught the children how to approach dogs, how to stroke dogs and what a dog’s behaviour tells the children.

In Year 1, the children learnt about the importance of a dog’s mental health and how we can be kind to them. We discussed how we should behave around dogs and learnt that dogs do not always want to be stroked or fussed. Wilfrid at Dog’s Trust dog told us about ‘Wilfrid’s choice’ which taught us to make the right choices when being near dogs.

In Year 3, each class made a pledge to be mindful, promising to respect dogs’ space when they need it and to show affection in ways they appreciate, like gentle strokes and playtime instead of squeezing and hugging. Year 4 learnt so much information about how to stay safe around dogs and how to be a dog’s best friend. They wrote promises on postcards they are always going to follow to make sure they can always be a dog’s best friend.

Sarah said she had a thoroughly enjoyable time at Kibworth Primary and commended the children for their contributions and listening. We are now all far more knowledgeable about dogs and even learnt that dogs have mental health too! We would like to say a huge thank you to her and also to Darcy who supported her on the Wednesday.

‘MC Grammar’ Visit

Thursday 27February was an exciting day at Kibworth as the school welcomed a very special visitor—none other than the renowned MC Grammar! Known for his creative approach to language and education, MC Grammar brought his infectious energy and passion for words, making learning fun and inspiring for students and teachers alike.

Adding to the excitement, Newsround came along to film the special event, capturing the magic as it unfolded. Six lucky children had the incredible opportunity to meet MC Grammar, learn about his new book, and even create their own raps under his expert guidance.

From the moment he arrived, the excitement in the air was palpable. Students gathered in anticipation, eager to see the man who turns grammar and literacy into an engaging, musical experience. MC Grammar did not disappoint! Through his dynamic performances, he transformed tricky grammar rules into catchy rhymes and beats, proving that learning can be both educational and entertaining.

Interactive sessions had students clapping, singing, and even rapping along, reinforcing key literacy concepts in a way that was both memorable and enjoyable. One highlight of the day was rapping about Nando’s and children discovering what their own rap names would be! The children fully embraced the experience, letting their lights shine as they showcased their creativity and confidence.

Teachers, too, were impressed by his innovative methods, gaining fresh ideas to incorporate into their own lessons. The visit was more than just a performance – it was an experience that left a lasting impression. Many students walked away feeling more confident in their literacy skills, inspired to explore language with newfound enthusiasm.

A huge thank you to MC Grammar and Newsround for making the day such a fantastic and unforgettable day at Kibworth! We can’t wait to welcome them back in the future for another round of learning fun.
