Just One Thing

Those of you who are aware of the much lamented Michael Mosley and his ‘Just One Thing’ suggestions to encourage healthy living, might like to consider a similar theme. This time for improving our environment and supporting wildlife.

How about deciding not to drop litter? It’s quite easy, either put your unwanted item in a bin or take it home, possibly to recycle. This can make all the difference to our struggling wildlife. Baby birds and other creatures can be killed if fed bits of plastic or other rubbish by their unsuspecting parents.

Join the Village Litterpick

You could take this a step further and decide to join our Village Litterpick. It’s quite an education, seeing what’s thrown away around our lovely village. In the past we’ve found a framed painting, a fire hydrant and car parts. As well as the usual assorted bottles, cans and takeaway food packaging. It’s an easy decision. Just contact Gill Wollerton on 07748 131 512 and let her know you’re available for the next session.

You’ll be warmly welcomed and provided with a very fetching Hi-Viz jacket, magic wand in the shape of a litter picker and bags. All you need is strong gloves, boots or wellingtons. At the end of the session, which will only be for an hour, you will discover you have a huge sense of satisfaction. You will have improved your local environment and protected wildlife from all our harmful rubbish.

Just as easy, and as satisfying and helpful to the environment, you could decide to pick up any litter in the street outside your home, which will only take a minute or two. See what you can do to help ‘Spring Clean’ our surroundings.
