Peter Carter – Obituary

First Kiss by Peter Carter

The following is on the LSA website

Leicester Society of Artists (LSA) has received sad news of the death of our member Peter Carter. After a long illness, Peter died peacefully at his home in Kibworth on 15 January, with his wife Mary at his side.

A longstanding and key member of LSA since his election in 1961, Peter Carter served as a Trustee of the Society. He actively participated in exhibitions, enthusiastically curating and installing the members’ sculptures. Peter was always a joy to be around and he will be sadly missed.

He specialised in metal sculpture with many of his sculptures intended for locations outside in parks and gardens. When viewed outside, living with nature, his work takes on another feeling compared to being in the gallery. He has exhibits in Leicester, Birmingham and Bristol. Peter also painted landscapes and life drawing using pastels and watercolour.

In 2008. Peter won the LSA Henton Prize for ‘First Kiss’ (detail above) and in 2012 the LSA Guy Dixon Prize for his sculpture ‘Repose’.

Kibworth’s lasting legacy of Peter’s work is the polystyrene and cardboard sculptured angel that hangs above St Wilfrid’s rood screen which was part of the Angel Festival several years ago.
