Some insight to life for Michael and Lorna Rodber… read on

Day 1 Tuesday 25

February Lorna and I enjoying last few days of stay in Málaga. Contacted my niece in Milan because of reports of coronavirus hitting hard in Italy. She sent me her report that included disturbing pictures of life there – empty supermarket shelves and metros at rush hour. That spooked me.

Day 2. Wednesday 26 February

Woke at 04.30 with things on my mind. By 06.00 had rescheduled our flights home for that evening.

Day 12. Saturday 7 March

Enjoyed a meal in Nottingham with our kids and partners to celebrate our daughter-in-law’s birthday. That was the last time we saw them in person. Let’s hope we all meet again before long – on the other side.

Last big shop at Sainsbury’s. The plan is not to touch anything again outside our house. Only online from now on.

Clap for the NHS. Great feeling to see all our neighbours together (in the distance, of course).

Days 14 -19. Monday 9 – Saturday 14 March

Continued doing usual activities but feeling more concerned about social mixing. By Saturday decided to put normality on hold.

Day 27. Sunday 22 March

Celebrated Mother’s Day with the kids. A lovely Sunday dinner together, courtesy Zoom video conferencing.

Day 28. Monday 23 March

Started experimenting with online U3A clubs – bridge, Spanish. and sketch club. That day, the government imposed stricter guidelines for lockdown.

Start regular walk in countryside only – Debdale and Mill Lane (route to and from Kibworth too tricky due to some idiots not knowing what two metres are).

Day 29. Tuesday 24 March.

Lorna has health concern. Saw GP at 2 Shires and then popped over to the LRI for appointment. Very anxious about social distancing under these circumstances. Didn’t help when person sneezed all over the car park pay machine

Day 30. Wednesday 25 March

Second trip to LRI for scan. Ditto anxiety. Big crowd of people bunched up together outside because of false fire alarm.

Day 31. Thursday 26 March

Big shop at Sainbury’s. Trying to do the two metre separation but too difficult. The set up needs to change.

Day 38. Thursday 2 April

Just heard of the death of one of our neighbours from Covid-19 from where we used to live in Leicester.

Day 41. Sunday 5 April

Boris goes to hospital and then to intensive care.

Day 42. Monday 6 April

Change walk route – along wider road to Saddington and back so being able to give wider berth to those that think they are immune to this crisis and hence putting us all at risk.

Day 43. Tuesday 7 April

Clap for Boris.

Day 45. Thursday 9 April

Clap for NHS. Boris out of intensive care.

Day 48. Sunday 12 April

Boris out of hospital. UK records over 10,000 hospital deaths.
