‘Stirling Moss’ on the road?

Dear Editor

Are we a nation of dangerous drivers?

Travelling by car from Market Harborough to Leicester recently I noticed that at every roundabout the necessary street furniture indicating that one’s car should turn left was in disarray, flattened by someone going straight on! Of course modern cars now have exceptionally good braking systems which prevent drivers skidding all over the place; however it is the modern drivers who seem to want to test their car’s braking systems and alas are occasionally failing.

When driving abroad I don’t see all the street furniture mangled and unreadable. Is it just the British who still need to be Stirling Moss?
