Harborough Woodland Community Volunteers (HW)

South Leicestershire has a woodland coverage of 3-4% (Surrey’s coverage is 25%) and it is decreasing with Ash dieback. Harborough Woodland is a not for profit community group set up in February 2020. Its aim is to increase woodland cover by planting trees and hedgerows and to reduce the risk of flooding through natural flood management (NFM). NFM schemes use vast numbers of trees and hedges. The roots, soil and fungi of one metre of mature hedge is a live sponge that can hold and slowly release 3 to 5m3 or tonnes of potential flood water (hedgelink.org.uk)

Everyone at GEMS Charity would like to thank the family of Jack Harling for donations after Jack’s recent passing. Jack was a great supporter and fundraiser for GEMS. This included numerous head and beard shaves, being open gardens car park attendant and donating his small change. Jack was always there if we needed him and will be greatly missed.

Remember, Remember… Not this year!

For at least the last 40 years Kibworth has enjoyed a spectacular fireworks display. This involves a huge amount of effort and planning from the Kibworth & Fleckney Rotary Club and the Kibworth Scouts & Guides. Of course, it wouldn’t be possible without the support from the Briggs Family. They loan the field and build the bonfire.

Come and join me at the Kibworth Late Night Christmas Shopping Event. I’ll be in the Village Hall with a stand selling homemade bakes and second-hand books in aid of children’s charity Youth Sport Trust (YST).
