Afternoon Teas were served at the club for two weeks prior to the Platinum weekend. Out came the fine china and many of our members (and indeed lots of visitors) came and enjoyed it.
There is a church in Clay Coton, a hamlet between the villages of Stanford-on-Avon and Yelvertoft, lying on the boundary between Northamptonshire and Leicestershire. When, some years ago, I inquisitively visited its grounds, it was clear that it was a long time since it had been used as a place for Christian gathering.
The Burton Overy Crafters started meeting in the Village Hall in September 2021. The idea was for like minded people to get together to enjoy crafts and friendship.
The annual quiz night was held at the home of John and Anne Emery in Kilby on Friday night, 10 June. Twenty people took part and we were very pleased to welcome newcomers to the village.
Despite the inclement weather, a joyful community celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee was held on Sunday 5 June in the Robert Monk Hall and grounds.
Never before has a British monarch reigned for 70 years, and to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the award-winning Wistow Maze’s design for 2022 is the shape of the Coronation Crown.
The weather was excellent over both the Easter and May Day holidays, and visitors flocked out to the locks. A steady stream of boats passed through, and the trip boat ‘Vagabond’ was up and running again. After two years, it feels as if we are hopefully getting back to how things were before the pandemic.
The sound of fun and laughter emanated from our village hall on the evening of Saturday 23 April as quiz masters Chris and Monica Gibbins delivered our annual quiz. To begin the evening, and to feed ‘those little grey cells,’ a delicious supper was served before the fun began. It certainly was a fun evening! At the end of the night, the results were really close. In the end the team ‘It’s my round’ just managed to gain the victory and win the prize. To the great delight of the organising committee, we made another £500 for the British Red Cross Ukrainian Appeal. This, along with £370 raised at our Henry V111 evening and another £1,121 in donations collected by the Church Council means that, to date, we have now raised a total of £1,991 for this most urgent appeal. Thank you to everyone for your generosity.
