Discover the multi-tasking Victorian. Looking at the ornate bill of sale, below, I was surprised to learn how versatile our ancestors actually were. They often turned their hand to almost any assignment. By the design of the letterhead, it would appear that this company tackled most projects that came their way. The businessman, Edward Mason, was based in Kibworth and a noted builder, contractor and monumental mason in the area.

The Festival of Leicestershire and Rutland Archaeology will be running from 3rd July to 1st August. The county festival is part of the UK’s biggest archaeological event, the National Festival of Archaeology.

Now that the restrictions have started to ease, we are delighted to be able to open our village hall once again to the various classes that use our facilities. Over the past year, the hall has been fully decorated, both inside and out. It is now a bright, clean and attractive place for the classes to take place in.

As April showers have extended into the summer months, the re-opening of The Well Café and Shop has been as varied as the weather! People have gradually braved it out again to try our freshly baked cakes. They have also enjoyed the influx of second-hand clothing, and to reacquaint themselves with our ‘Warm, Well Welcome.’

The 17 May saw the return of classes to the Hall. After so long it is good to see activity again, even if only on a small scale. Next moth we will see the return of larger gatherings. It has been strange not to see our regular users for a year but hopefully the lockdown and vaccinations will help us return to normality (and better weather.) We are looking forward to a busier summer with the WI, U3A, theatre groups, children’s parties and wedding parties all making use of our village space.

May is full of anniversaries. 2nd is Harry Potter Day – the day of the Battle of Hogwarts. May the Fourth is Star Wars Day. May 5th is the anniversary of Edward Lear, King of Limericks, birthday. It also, of course, celebrates limericks.
