As the football season draws to a close it’s time to reflect on another bumper year at Birds Barn and pick out some highlights, including three appearances in cup finals for our teams.
A very successful Couch to 5k program has now been completed. We had a great turnout at the Market Harborough parkrun on a lovely sunny Saturday morning.
The Leicestershire Summer League matches will be starting after the Easter Holidays for both children and adults. There are four men’s teams, three ladies teams, three mixed teams and five mini/junior teams taking part. The adults are currently having their weekly matchplay sessions and the children have their weekly tennis coaching sessions along with the Team Tennis events to get ready for the new season. Let’s hope it is a successful season for the club!
We continue to make progress in the Leicester League. Valuable experience against a great variety of players was gained by many, even if the match was lost.
Last month we featured internationally renowned Creative Designer Harvey Gardiner from Kibworth Harcourt (read the full article here). He had submitted a design for a bronze statue of Agatha Christie for Torquay Harbour. Nearer to home, Harvey has also designed a large monument for Leicester Tigers (Rugby Football Club). The monument commemorates the 53 Leicester Tigers players that died in the Great Wars and the remaining 36 players currently known to have survived.
