Look after your mind - What Colour is that Sound?

26th October 2024 | Health

It is said that when Mozart heard sounds he perceived them as colours, and that when music played, rainbows streamed across his vision. This phenomenon is known as Synaesthesia, the word deriving from the Greek meaning a ‘coming together’ or ‘union of the senses’. Synaesthesia takes many forms,(although sound-to-colour is reported to be the most common). Some people perceive sounds as textures, (auditory-tactile), while others experience words as tastes,(lexical-gustatory). It was once thought that Synaesthesia was a pathological condition. However it’s now recognised as a natural ability that some people, like Mozart, possess to a high degree.

Editorial

26th October 2024 | Editorial

I have known the Kibworth Chronicle my whole life. I grew up in Kibworth and now live here with my own family. My Mum was Editor of the Chronicle for years so it has always been a part of my life. Mum has now long retired from that role I was persuaded to get involved by another volunteer on the team. I am an Ecommerce Manager for a local company, The Kid Collective Ltd. I have worked in the digital space for many years, so I felt my skills were best put to use in the Chronicle online team. I now manage the images for the Chronicle website, post 10 - 20 articles a month and keep the digital ‘Noticeboard’ up to date with local events. We’re a small team and would love to have more members. You don’t need to have digital experience to volunteer for the online team. The posting process is quite simple once you know how, so why not give it a go!.

Nature Notes - Autumn Migration

24th October 2024 | Community

Last month I drew attention to the onset of the autumn migration and birds that might be (and subsequently have been) seen in September. “Most years a redstart is seen in a garden somewhere locally”. I almost got that spot on. Two redstarts were seen in a hedge an easy walking distance from where I live, unfortunately, not by me.

Illston on the Hill WI

24th October 2024 | Clubs and Societies

Illston on the Hill WI invited John to speak and demonstrate the hula hooping. This is a talent he famously showcased on ITV’s ‘Britain’s Got Talent’!  Hula hooping has an intriguing history. It dates back to the 14th century when people would use woven branches to create hoops for play and exercise. Today, we’ve come a long way enjoying modern hoops made from lightweight plastic or bamboo that cater to various skill levels and styles.
