Calving and lambing day at Bridge 67

Once again we are looking forward to welcoming you into the calving and lambing sheds at our annual open day, on Saturday 21 March Binleys Bridge Farm, Debdale Lane, Smeeton Westerby, LE8 0QD. Come down to the farm between 11am – 5pm to see the cows calving and sheep lambing.  We will hopefully have a few pigs for you to see too.

I am sure I’m not alone in being able to recall my grandparents and parents gazing wistfully across a huge new housing estate and sighing “I remember when this was all green fields”. The ‘Green and Pleasant land’ of William Blake and Hubert Parry has always been prized, whether as an ideal or as a reality for those fortunate enough to live in an area like Kibworth and its surrounding villages. It is a fair assumption that people who move to this area are not, in the main, hoping to find nightclubs, Sushi bars and multiplex cinemas. The beauty and peace of the countryside with its walks and wildlife has to be a strong magnet for those who are lucky enough to have choices.

In memory of Pat Stops

We are saddened to learn of the death of Patricia ‘Pat’ Stops. For many years, Patricia ran a haute couture ladies' dress shop called "Patricia Charles" on Kibworth High Street. This was situated where ‘Wedding Belles’ is currently located.

In memory of Harold Mann

The Kibworth & District Chronicle is saddened to learn of the death of Harold Mann. Harold was possibly the oldest member of our monthly delivery volunteers. He was asked many years ago by the then editor Roger Garratt to assist with delivering the Chronicle on a temporary basis but continued to do so in his nineties. He will be missed.

Telraam - the latest eight months figures are in!

In November 2024 the Kibworth and District Chronicle published an article stating that five out of six Telraam traffic sensors had been installed. These sensors can detect and count different types of ‘vehicles’ (including pedestrians and cyclists), the direction of travel, and approximate speed. Snow was forecast on 8 January, our meeting night. With none falling by 6.30pm our intrepid president, Teresa, set out from Oadby. Other members, braving the cold, began to arrive, just 16 in all. We shelved the business part of the meeting and settled down for the talk.

At our first ‘Kibworth & District Heritage Society’ meeting of the year, chairman John Freeland shared some fascinating stories and photographs about his great-granduncle, Alonzo Freeland. Alonzo was one of three well-known Victorian photographers in the village, and the photos of Kibworth from the past were particularly captivating.
