Are you watching the BBC television series ‘The Mirror and The Light’, the third part of Hilary Mantel’s epic story Wof Hall? In this production Mark Rylance gives an imaculate nuanced performance as the ever thoughtful Thomas Cromwell. It is interesting to note that Cromwell, who with his son Gregory have a strong connection to Leicestershire especially with nearby Launde Abbey.

After Harborough Town’s FA Cup victory vs Tonbridge, Leonard, a Kibworth Primary School pupil, declared that, “I’m going to get a ‘pick in the box’ at school for really good reading.” A ‘pick in the box’ is a box of treats pupils at Leonard’s school are rewarded with  for very good work. Leonard continued, “I’m going to pick a trophy and give it to the Harborough Town keeper at the Reading match, to say well done for doing really well.” True to Leonard’s word, a few days later he returned home with the trophy he’d selected, which he’d earned for very good reading. 

Christmas is a time for excitement and celebration, and the joy of family and friends. It also brings pressure and expectations; hustle and bustle. It can, for many people, be a painful time: of loneliness, poverty or homelessness. If we look closely at the stories of the birth of Jesus in the Bible, we can find all these things too. The Nativity story shows us that Jesus came into the real world - the world of our mess and grief.  And yet people found God right there in the midst of it all, leading to thankfulness, joy and praise.

It's been a brilliant year for Fleckney & Kibworth Running Club, with some fantastic achievements at races, great progress from our new members and some really enjoyable social events along the way.

As we come to the end of the year in the library, we are watching our exciting new extension at Kibworth Community Hub take shape at pace. It’s not long since the first spade went into the ground, and we’re thinking already about decorating.

As the festive season approaches, the Kibworth crew is once again embracing the Christmas spirit and is thrilled to announce that Santa and Rudolph will join them for a special tour of the village on Monday 23 December,continuing our jolly annual tradition. The festive parade to raise much needed funds for local charities will start from Kibworth Fire Station at 1800hrs, and we warmly invite you and your family to join in the fun. Whether you walk alongside the crew or cheer from the sidelines, your participation is greatlyencouraged! With a busy few weeks ahead, Rudolph and Santa may need a few mince pies and carrots to keep their energy levels up for the journey. New funding allocations for local transport authorities to provide bus service improvements were announced on 19 November 2024 for the 2025/26 financial year. 

Hurray for Wimbledon (I mean the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, not the town or Football Club)! They are working to make their grass courts and flower beds as sustainable as possible in the way they garden. They’ve given up peat compost and are experimenting with alternatives. It has been suggested by Andy Wright at The Well that the Kibworth & District Chronicle might provide, at the very least, an up to date list of locations where a publicly accessible defibrillator may be located.
