Illston on the Hill WI invited John to speak and demonstrate the hula hooping. This is a talent he famously showcased on ITV’s ‘Britain’s Got Talent’! Hula hooping has an intriguing history. It dates back to the 14th century when people would use woven branches to create hoops for play and exercise. Today, we’ve come a long way enjoying modern hoops made from lightweight plastic or bamboo that cater to various skill levels and styles.

Our annual Greenkeepers Shield competition took place on 13 September. Robert Lodge, David Stevens and Dave Williams were this year’s winning team and are shown in the photo receiving their trophy from Richard Smith (our fantastic Greenkeeper). After 2½ hours of bowling we were all ready for the delicious fish and chip supper which followed the match.
