Following the public meeting on 23 May in Kibworth Grammar School Hall, further meetings with Network Rail were held with local councillors and MP, Neil O’Brien to change the original plans of a long diversion via Church Road to a temporary footbridge.

The Parish Council’s monthly public meetings over the summer were held on 27 June and, with no meeting in July, on 22 August. All meetings are held in the Studio at the Kibworth Grammar School Hall.

Thank you to our hard-working team of Councillors Heather Munroe, Martine Browne and Irene Ward. To our very busy Clerk, Alison Gibson. Also to our Heritage and Tree Wardens, Mark Newton and Joan Gray. Heather and Martine have decided to step down as Councillors after seven and a half and eight years respectively. We are very grateful for all the commitment and service they have given the Parish Council.

This diagram shows the major responsibilities for our three levels of local authorities/councils. There are some anomalies to further complicate the picture. For example, the county is responsible for mending roads and pavements, but the district is responsible for cleaning them. In Kibworth Beauchamp, the parish street warden keeps the main shopping area clear of litter.

Gartree Super-Prison

We still await the decision of the Secretary of State for Levelling up, Housing and Communities, Michael Gove, on the appeal by the Ministry of Justice against the refusal of planning permission by Harborough District Council for building of a 1700 inmate prison on the greenfield site at Gartree.

County Councillor for Gartree - May 2023

Cadent had permission to install gas pipes to the Coach & Horses pub in the week of 17-21 April and, initially, apart from switching off the Pelican pedestrian crossing lights, there were 2-way traffic lights to control traffic along the A6. This still resulted in long traffic queues, but these became much worse from mid-week when the roadworks included digging a trench half-way across the A6, and 4-way traffic lights were introduced.
