Year 4 performed their production of 'Splash!' in the final week of the spring term at Kibworth CE Primary School. What a performance it was! The Year Four team are incredibly proud of all the children, who worked extremely hard both on and off stage. In just a few weeks, they managed to produce an amazing show and dazzle the audience at three packed out showings.
Soon after Kibworth railway station opened in 1857, discussions started to consider establishing a gas company in the village. A company was formed with the Rev F. Islip as chairman. Kibworth Gas Light & Coke Company started to supply customers on Thursday 23 October 1862 at a site on New Road, next to the railway bridge. £1,240 of the initial capital invested of £2,000 was subscribed by parishioners.
I felt like sending something different this time; less about statistics and crime, so today I have put together this short blog about quirky and ridiculous ancient laws which acted as crucial parts of ancient and medieval justice. Delving into ancient UK laws reveals a fascinating glimpse into the past, where justice was different from our modern legal system. Read on to find out more. I hope that you find it interesting.
In the Domesday census of 1086, Gumley’s recorded population was 20. By 1821, this had risen to 289 before a gradual fall to 209 as shown in the 2011 census. The village is mentioned even earlier in year 749, when King Aethelbald of Mercia held a synod at Gumley under the instigation of Pope Boniface. Gumley must have been held in some importance as King Offa also visited Gumley in 772 and 779.
As we bounced into 2024 with so many of our own changes and endeavours to generate new, exciting reasons for people to keep visiting Boboli, I have also been very mindful of all the other small businesses doing their best to survive in these very trying times.

As Easter approaches it is timely to remember that Easter is preceded by the period of Lent, a time which played a major part in the establishment of The Well. In 2006 Christians in Kibworth felt called to pray continuously during Lent. They were given a small room in the Grammar School Hall (now known as Kibworth Community Hub) and set up a rota to ensure that prayer continued day and night for the 40 days of Lent. Many people in the wider community took their turn in manning the prayer room where they enjoyed an hour of quiet, and gradually people began writing notes asking for prayer for various situations, including for their family and friends. At the end of Lent there was a real feeling that this temporary prayer space should be replaced by something permanent. This led to two couples buying 45 High Street to become The Well offering not only a room for space, quiet and prayer, but a pre-loved clothing shop and also a café where people could find companionship. And eventually, due to Covid, the foodbank. The Well is a Christian charity but it aims to welcome people of all faiths and none.

This winter has been especially difficult as the Greenkeepers have battled relentlessly against the elements to keep the course open as much as possible. However, spring is upon us, and we can now think about de-mudding the golf clubs in readiness for the season ahead.
