The Kibworth and Smeeton's WI new year’s programme began on Thursday 11 January with John Parnell talking to us about Circus Skills, which included some of the history of the circus in this country, together with entertaining
demonstrations of juggling.

Recently we watched and were absorbed by the TV adaptation of the events surrounding the Post Office Horizon scandal which received widespread public attention, forcing politicians to promise action and compensation? Ha ha!

Once again we are looking forward to welcoming you into the calving and lambing sheds at our annual open day, on Saturday 23 March Binleys Bridge Farm, Debdale Lane, Smeeton Westerby, LE8 0QD. Come down to the farm between 11am – 5pm to see the cows calving and sheep lambing. We will hopefully have a few pigs for you to see too.

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and is a time when Christians reflect and prepare for the celebrations of Easter. Some people eat frugally or give up treats following the example of Jesus, who fasted for forty days in the wilderness. Others give to charity, set aside time to study the Bible and meet with other Christians to reflect on Jesus' life.

We are a few weeks into our new term and following our taster session on Thursday 11 January we have had over ten new ladies joining the Kibworth Ladies Choir, taking our numbers to 51! It has been an amazing start to the new year, with lots of positive comments from all our new ladies!  

When I eventually sat down to write this piece I had just been listening to BBC Radio 4 News and I thought about doing a rant about the injustices in this world, which we cannot do much about because they are outside our territory, but those within our shores bring me shame and concern.

An annual event which is developed each year by a different country chosen years in advance. This year, coincidentally, it happens to be Palestine which might seem to some rather apt.
