Our most recent meeting proved to be a truly relaxing – and surprisingly invigorating experience. We were delighted to welcome Duncan from Rutland Tai Chi, who joined us to introduce the ancient Chinese art of Tai Chi.

Professional Leicester artist, Helen Newton, began her presentation at the Kibworth Art Lovers’ October meeting with a talk through the renowned artists who had influenced her work. Among these were Henri Matisse, David Hockney and Gerard Dillon whose strong colours and disregard for conventional perspective appealed to her own artistic leanings. Helen explained how her choice of gouache as a preferred medium provided the strong, vivid colours and flat application which are features of her paintings. Portraits of Leicester houses and gardens, and particularly the grounds of Leicester Cathedral, were fine examples of ‘The Vibrant World of Helen Newton’, one of the titles given to her work.
On Friday 15 September, Kibworth and Fleckney Rotary Club held their annual Charity Golf Day at Kibworth Golf Club. At one o’clock the 18, 4-ball teams teed off simultaneously, a shot gun start, from all 18 tees. We were lucky with the weather and, after a fun round of golf, the teams all congregated back at the clubhouse for a buffet meal.
Rehearsals for our Christmas Show, ‘Rhyme and Treason,’ are continuing apace. Lines are learnt (almost) costumes are being fitted and props are being bought. The next stage will be building the set.
The Kibworth Art Lovers’ Society provides the opportunity for local artists from beginners to the more experienced, and for those who appreciate art, to attend monthly demonstrations and presentations by professional artists.
Fleckney Table Tennis Club is settling into its temporary home at the main hall of Kibworth Mead Academy. We were gratified to see that the team which beat us in the semi-final of the Elbow Tankard went on to win the top prize. We wish all our junior and senior League players good luck for the coming season.
During the summer we enjoyed an entertaining talk about Rockingham Castle and a mouth-watering demonstration of creating beautiful chocolate items. In August we celebrated our 107th birthday with a meal and quizzes.
